Robert J Habeeb

Founder & CEO

Bob is a seasoned professional with over 35 years of high profile, multiunit experience in hotel, resort and food and beverage management.

Prior to establishing  Maverick, Bob spent the last 21 years with First Hospitality Group, growing the company footprint from 13 hotels to 55 hotels in its peak, operating across 8 brands, 24 chains in 10 states. Prior to joining  FHG in 1997 he was the COO of the U. S. resort subsidiary of London’s Rank Group, PLC (owners of the Hard Rock Café’s) where he was responsible for a multifaceted portfolio of hotel, restaurant and leisure businesses.

Over his career, he has successfully operated hospitality businesses in virtually every aspect of the industry including luxury, select service, resort hotels, restaurants and golf and ski operations in every setting imaginable.

Robin Kirk

President

Overseeing operational excellence for Maverick hotels and resorts. He has leadership experience with portfolios of both branded and independent hotels across North America. His background includes work at both the corporate and divisional levels of several renowned hospitality companies, where he was instrumental in driving performance through system and process implementation. Most recently, Robin led Scout hotels as Principal and CEO, and was formerly a Divisional Vice President for Sage Hospitality Resources. Prior to that, he was President of CSM Lodging where he oversaw the growth of a company that owned 37 hotels with six brands. Robin’s additional experience includes Executive Vice President at MeriStar Hotels and Resorts, where Robin was responsible for a large portfolio of resort and urban hotels. In addition to Robin’s experience at a corporate level, he also served as General Manager of several significant hotels and resorts, including The Hotel Hershey and The Philadelphia Hilton and Towers. Robin graduated from the University of York in England with a BA with Honors in Economics and Politics.

Wendy Stevens

Chief Operating Officer

As Chief Operating Officer, Wendy is responsible for the day to day operational oversight of Maverick’s hotel portfolio. In this capacity, Wendy oversees the support staff and multiple hotels with direct reporting lines to her. The portfolio consists of properties which operate major brands including Marriott, Hilton, IHG and other independent resorts. She is responsible for the financial and quality performance of all the hotels.

As a seasoned industry veteran, Wendy joined Maverick with extensive brand, sales and operational experience which included 18 years with First Hospitality Group in various leadership roles, most recently as Chief Commercial Officer. Wendy has extensive regional and national experience with FHG and has previously held corporate positions with Lane Hospitality and Hyatt Hotels. It is Wendy’s motivation, experience, ability to train and develop efficient teams for all facets of operations, and communication and interpersonal relations skills that has led her to success.

James Kallas

President/Principal, Maverick Restaurants

After a highly successful 30+ year career as an executive with the Compass Group, Jim is excited to have joined Maverick Restaurants as President and Principal along with Bob Habeeb. Maverick Restaurants is the sister company to Maverick Hotels and Restaurants and focuses on all aspects of hospitality within the Maverick brand portfolio.

Jim’s 40-year hospitality background in hotels, restaurants, and managed hospitality venues across the United States brings a unique expertise level to Maverick. Jim is the past chairman of the Illinois Restaurant association and continues to serve on the executive committee. He also is a board member of the Chicago Police Foundation and Quest Managed Services.

Steven Ellingsen

Regional VP of Operations

As Regional Vice President for Maverick Hotels and Restaurants, Steven provides operational leadership for the Chicago region. Steven has been the Managing Director at the Hilton Oak Brook Hills Resort and Conference Center for over six years. Steven quickly developed a passion for hospitality from his first position at The Ritz Carlton Hotel Company in California 29 years ago. Holding over 15 years of Area and General Management experience, Steven has operated, developed, and repositioned numerous assets, including The Conrad in Indianapolis, The Dupont Circle Hotel in Washington DC, Mile North Hotel in Chicago, Illinois, and multiple Club Quarters hotels in Chicago, Illinois. With senior leadership roles at The Houstonian Hotel, Club, and Spa, Washington Duke Inn and Golf Club, and The Arizona Biltmore Resort and Spa, Steven’s extensive Resort and Club experience adds a unique luxury and resort perspective to the Maverick team. Steven has led many hotel openings and directly overseen extensive multi-million-dollar renovation projects within his career. Steven is an active executive board member of the IHLA and is a board of director for the City of Westmont. He is a graduate of Emerson College with a B.A. in Communications and Public Speaking. Steven is known for his competitive spirit, drive, innovation, and entrepreneurial excellence. He leads with confidence and conviction, exhibiting a personal passion for exceptional service and an unwavering focus on results. Steven brings passion and enthusiasm into every detail, encouraging others to dream, grow, and strive to live their best life.

Tom Grassle

Chief Investment Officer

Tom is responsible for underwriting through the analysis, and acquisition of new project opportunities. Tom is a seasoned hospitality executive who spent five years working as an investment advisor in the New York office of a global real estate brokerage firm with assignments throughout the U.S., the Caribbean, and South America. Tom spent seven years in the New York headquarters of Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. and also worked as a valuation and feasibility consultant in the New York office of HVS International. He began his career in hotel operations holding various management positions at the Sheraton Boston Hotel & Towers. Tom graduated with a BS in Hotel & Restaurant Management from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and earned a Certificate in Hotel Real Estate from Cornell School of Hotel Administration.

John Poss

Vice President of Finance

As Vice President of Finance, John Poss is responsible for the accounting, treasury, and finance functions of Maverick and our portfolio.

 

Prior to taking on his role, John was the Director of Finance for The Ritz-Carlton Chicago where he contributed significantly to the hotel’s performance, growth, and organizational effectiveness. Over the course of his career, he has held financial and operational leadership positions with major brands including Marriott and Hilton, serving in markets ranging from Chicago to Hawaii, California, Colorado, and Italy.

 

John is well-versed in leading new opening teams, preparing long-range plans, annual budgets, and making recommendations on financial and capital allocation strategies. With a wealth of diverse experience to his credit, John is a key driver on the Maverick team adding value across the company.

Renee Lobello

Regional Controller

With over 25 years of experience as a senior leader in hospitality accounting to her credit, Renee is a valuable member of the Maverick finance team and oversees area accounting functions in her role of Regional Controller. 

Sam Selim

Senior Director of IT

Hospitality professional with diverse experience in information structure, corporate and hotel technologies, project management, corporate HR/Payroll/HCM, Corporate finance, Business intelligence, Sales/Marketing/Revenue Management, network engineering, new hotel and restaurant construction project management. Service centric oriented individual with demonstrated ability to lead multiple disciplines and projects. Proven executive leadership to budget, develop, construct, analyze, implement long term and sustainable corporate initiatives. 

Tom Pucci

IT Services

Tom Pucci is responsible for IT services across east coast properties. Tom brings thirty-one years of experience as an IT Operations Manager for the Town of Falmouth.

During Tom’s long career with the Town of Falmouth he was responsible for IT innovation from Main Frames to Virtual servers and the Town wide network. Tom was the lead for all large Town IT infrastructure installations, managing vendors and budgets. Tom’s favorite accomplishments include the Falmouth Public Library and the Public Safety Dispatch Center.

Toni Hasan

Director of People Excellence

As a Director of People Excellence, Toni is dedicated to the holistic success of all Mavericks and seeking out the best and brightest to join our team. With decades of experience managing Hospitality Staffing Search, she understands what it takes to attract the right talent to Maverick and curating a space in which all employees can thrive.

Our organization and people processes evolve with the rapid growth of our business. As a thought partner on the leadership team, she helps ensure that our organization, people processes, and culture scale as we continue to grow Maverick across the country.

She strives to sustain high levels of employee engagement and success, as well as advance corporate diversity at Maverick.

Outside of the office, Toni is committed to supporting at-risk populations through philanthropic work. For the past 18 years, she has served as a Chair of the Chicago fundraising committee benefiting the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Christin Smith

Regional Director of Revenue Generation

As Regional Director of Revenue Generation, Christin Smith oversees revenue generation efforts for various Maverick Chicago hotels in support of company-wide business objectives.  Key responsibilities include establishing and implementing hotel rate and sales strategies to support overall financial success, while maintaining vigilance to assure hotels are competitively placed in the Market for optimal results.

 

While pursuing a college degree in psychology, Christin fell into hospitality working at a local hotel as a front office employee.  After graduating, while waiting to start her psychology career, she moved into the Sales office where she quickly became Director of Sales. Being the driven go-getter that she is, not long after, she transitioned from Sales to Revenue Management.  It was in this role where she really excelled, and a job became her passion as she grew to manage a portfolio of 14 hotels. Christine thrives in the fast-paced environment of the Hotel industry, and with her analytical mindset and desire to share her expertise with others, she remains an integral part of Maverick’s success.

Greg Bak

Area Revenue Manager

Since joining the Maverick team, Greg Bak has transitioned into the role of Area Director of Revenue overseeing hotel Revenue Management and Reservations functions. He provides strategic planning, marketing, forecasting & budgeting direction for area hotels in conjunction with those property’s Corporate Revenue Management liaison, ensuring maximum results and efficiency.

Greg’s diverse and extensive background in hospitality, ranging from sales to food and beverage to operations and finance has made him a prized asset to our team. With his first venture into the hotel industry as a Maintenance Manager for a small hotel in the Colorado Mountains, he quickly began to dip his toes into almost every area of the hotel industry. While doing so, Greg discovered a passion for food and beverage and was able to hone his skills while working at a unique property boasting a James Beard Acclaimed Chef. Ultimately Greg’s sights were set on Chicago, where he assumed the role of Director of Revenue at the city’s iconic Drake hotel. During his time in Chicago, he has managed to master his craft of Revenue Management and continues to excel in his expertise at Maverick.

Matt Kiedrowski

Director of Revenue Generation

Officing at one of our flagship properties, Sable at Navy Pier Chicago, Matt is not only an integral opening team member of a hotel that is the first and only of its kind – but an invaluable resource to Maverick’s portfolio as a whole. With multi-disciplinary experience in both sales & revenue management and 10 years of Hilton brand experience to his credit, Matt delivers a thorough, collaborative, and knowledgeable approach to his role.

Morgan Stevens

Director of Marketing

Self-motivated marketing professional brings a positive, can-do attitude and organized approach to the Maverick team. Proficiencies span areas of traditional and digital marketing, including copywriting, communications, web development, social media, graphic design, and project management. Fluent in Microsoft and Adobe’s Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, Premier Pro, etc.). This combination of skills lends the ability to build cohesive brands and campaigns with results that speak for themselves.

Jim Kramer

Area Chief Engineer

In his role, Jim is responsible to the portfolio to manage all aspects of maintenance staff. Jim has extensive knowledge and experience with electrical, plumbing, HVAC and other structural workings and oversight of capital expenditure projects. He directs and coordinates the property teams to perform routine, preventive and emergency interior / exterior maintenance and repairs to obtain optimum efficiency and economy of hotel operations. Jim comes with more than 25 years of professional and hospitality experience, most recently as Chief Engineer at the award winning Hilton Oak Brook Hills Resort. Prior roles include both Club Quarters and Aramark Facility Services. Jim is based in Chicagoland and in his spare time enjoys his grandchildren and camping with his dogs.

Robert Amick

Managing Partner, Food and Beverage, Renegade Restaurants

After four decades in the restaurant business, Bob is no stranger to the dining scene both in Atlanta and nationally. His experience covers the gamut of the industry and he has certainly created a following in the process.

In 1974, Amick launched his career with Peasant Restaurants where he was instrumental in creating Mick’s Restaurants and City Grill, among others. After expanding Peasant Restaurants to more than 42 locations nationally, Amick and his partners sold to Quantum in 1989. Amick stayed on as CEO, taking the company public under Morton’s Restaurant Group. In 1998, following his time at Peasant Restaurants, Amick opened the highly acclaimed Killer Creek. Amick sold Killer Creek in 2001 and started the development of a series of high profile, chef-driven dining experiences in the prospering area of Midtown Atlanta; thus emerged Concentrics Restaurants.

Concentrics, and Amick, have been recognized in nationally-acclaimed publications such as The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, Bon Appétit, Food & Wine, Food Arts, O: The Oprah Magazine, Delta Sky, GO!, Lucky and InStyle magazine. Additionally, Concentrics boasted the first Atlanta chef to appear on the Food Network’s culinary showdown, “Iron Chef America” and a feature on “Rachael Ray’s Tasty Travels.” Amick is a recent recipient of the “Lifetime Achievement Award” courtesy of the Georgia Restaurant Association and his concepts have been nominated for several James Beard Awards including “Outstanding Restaurateur” and “Best Restaurant”.
